The town center looked magical, like out of a perfect Christmas Dream.
It's not every day that you get to see what you are made of and get in front of a crowd of 6000 people to sing. Actually it was the one and only time in my life. I wasn't nervous at all....and then as we were about to climb the stage I saw the people for the first time just below the stage lights. I got a wave of "Oh cheese and crackers"...and then just did what I've been doing for three decades...only better! I was flanked by my great friends and bandmates and knew they would be awesome. I was singing Christmas songs which weren't mine so the pressure was on to get them right. I couldn't believe how quickly the set flew by. Then we took a little break so SANTA could magically light up the Christmas Tree. We then came back on to do a sing a long with Santa who provided outstanding harmonies on Jingle Bells.

What a week. An amazing residency. 17 classes, 8 great songs. Our assembly with 400 kids tomorrow morning!
Sold 16 CDs our first day! At this rate I will have a solid gold record in only 10 years. That's sooner than when my mortgage will be paid off... I am so excited to share this new cd with my friends and family. I'm also psyched about working on the soundtrack for a documentary about my favorite inventor NIKOLA TESLA! My nephew Alexander came up with a killer piece and Jimmy Leahey orchestrated our song "lightning" which is amazing.
This has been a heck of a music week. So many things going on and I'm wondering what will come of it all. I have been working on a score for a potential HBO series with my nephew Alexander. Got a call about a huge song commission and now am waiting to hear if I get the go ahead. Was told a ton of my music has made it's way on to some DVD reissues but no one signed the papers yet. Spent some time recording backing vocals at Trax East for Eryn Shewells latest CD. I have a live appearance tomorrow night as well. So...it's back to scoring. I've got some cool ideas. Al keeps reminding me that it's the journey that matters.
The cover art for my new CD.. Sending it out to be printed next week. I'm so excited about this collection of songs and I can't wait to share them with my friends...
I made a little personal history last night as I brought a new CD to mastering. This was a BEAR of a project. 3 Years in the making. This was not a band album, it was a personal journey that emerged from the past few years as a singer-songwriter. Jimmy Leahey and I had a bunch of unfinished pieces lying around in various stages of completion.... I had also begun writing and recording with Eryn Shewell a few years ago which also got derailed via everyone being sidetracked. In May I revisited this project and realized that these were amazing songs and they needed to be finished. I didn't know if I had the energy necessary to make it happen....that's where Al Greene came into the picture. He spent 100's of hours...and that's no exaggeration, on these tracks. He added bass where needed, he added drums and percussion where needed, he added piano, he mixed the tracks and the product is stunning. Via a good friend... we decided to master it at Sterling Sound in Chelsea Market NYC. An awesome experience. The sound was incredible. Steve Fallone is a genius. Eli was there and got really into it. Jimmy stopped by as well. So I spent the evening filling out BMI forms and OK ing the reference tracks. Now it's a CD design and getting it out. Whew...
What an amazing undertaking. In our little musical family my talented nephew composted several pieces for 18 musicians for his final recital in his Arts HS. It was amazing. Now he's off to Eastman.
A few years back, Jimmy Leahey gave me a piece of music and as usual I listened to it a million times until it marinated in my brain. After a while it wrote itself into the song "Happy Mother's Day". I think it may be the most honest song I've written in years.
Oh baby you arrived today So tiny and perfect and squirming away And I hold you for the first time You’re so amazing, now what can I say And we’re tossing and turning and getting no sleep Rocking and rolling, trying to get you to eat And I’m singing you love songs I’d forgotten for years I know it’s your day, but it’s my day too Happy Mothers Day Come on in now it’s getting dark Why? Cause I said so, now don’t be so smart Then you’re on my back and I’m down on all fours And we’re laughing and singing and sharing the chores And there’s heartaches and headaches and worries and pain Along with the dancing and splashing in the rain It’s a life that is full, one that I’d never trade If one thing is true, I simply love you And this is Mothers Day Oh even when you’re all grown This love will be my own Through happy and sad, good times and bad For now it’s my turn To watch your life unfurl Wind blowing through your golden curls I’m at your graduation and you’re soon leaving home It’s all that I’d hoped for but I’m not ready at all And you smile and say “thanks Mom” and I’m flooded with tears Feels like a day, not so many years And I call up my Mother and cried on the phone Tell her I’m sad and I feel so alone And she listens a while says you now understand This is your day and it’s my day too Happy Mothers Day I say...Happy Mothers Day Happy Mothers Day This is your new blog post. I realiized that it was time to try to link all of my musical endeavors together with my own website. I have been recording and performing my music for over a decade with my band The Alice Project. In that time we released 4 CD's, played countless concerts, recorded a live DVD which is just about finished and shared a zillion amazing experiences. Over the past 5 years the band and I have spread out, diversified and just plain grew up a bit and haven't been the exclusive thing we once were. Each of us have been doing miraculous things with our craft and I have, I think come into my own as a songwriter. With a band there is a tendency to write specifically for that project. For my own stuff...I've been spreading my wings and writing songs with kids, mentoring teens, writing in every style imaginable, putting on my living room concert series, writing with an assortment of fabulous musicians oh....and writing my book of my musical memoirs.
